Now this is news! The New York Times is reporting that Intel and Yahoo are working together to bring web applications to TV. You could have guess this, given intel’s mini-itx ventures lately, including the latest product - the Intel D945GCLF2 “Little Falls” 2 - it has an S-Video output. I’m very curious as to what operating system they’ll use - linux with MythTV? That’d be sweet.

Sons of Anarchy is a new drama set to premier on FX on September 3, 2008. The series takes you inside the ranks of a ruthless motorcycle gang as they try and protect their small Californian town from outsiders. The show stars Charlie Hunnam, Katey Segal, and Ron Perlman.
I’m really looking forward to this one. As far as crime shows go it’ll be interesting to see criminal activity from the other side of the law for a change. The show looks to be stocking some great talent with Hunnum (Greenstreet Hooligans) and Ron Perlman (Hellboy). Perlman is always a treat to watch, and is a criminally underrated actor if you ask me. The guy is electric in every role he plays. I’ve only seen Hunnam in one movie, The Greenstreet Hooligans, but he certainly proved he is a worthy talent in that particular role.
The plot is something we haven’t seen before, at least not from this perspective. I see the show matching The Shield’s tone as far as adult content is concerned. FX has made a name for itself as their shows shoot for realism without desensitizing their material for cable. Based on FX’s track record, I think this will be another slam dunk for the blossoming network.
In doing a little research on open source linux gaming consoles, I came across this article from 2000
“The Future of Linux is your TV”
Considering that was eight years ago, its mighty interesting.
Another great comedy that just kind of slipped through the cracks. I began watching this show based on a friend’s recommendation. The show is about a twin brother and sister named Dennis and Deandra, and their two friends Mac and Charlie and their trials and tribulations trying to get their struggling bar off the ground.
Like a lot of great comedies, on paper the premise doesn’t look like much, but the characters and situations really cause the series to shine. The cast of relative unknowns are all excellent in their roles with the character of Charlie being one of the best characters to come down the pike in quite some time. Charlie is played perfectly by actor Charlie Day. Then of course you have the icing on the cake which is the twins father played by Danny Devito. What a great role for him. Every time the guys on screen he puts me in stitches.
If you don’t mind crude humor and controversial subjects then check one of the funniest, most unique shows to come along in quite some time. FX manages to churn out another must see show.
Tonight we watched “Greatest American Dog” on television. It was pretty good! Its fun to watch the owners and their dogs compete. Some of the contestants are really annoying, and I’m sure the producers chose them for that exact reason - what’s a reality show without a little misbehavin’ and drama??
I was surprised that there are two Border Collies on the show. They aren’t the most common dogs, but they are great dogs. It bugs me though - they have very strong instincts to do what they have been bred to do, and a lot of owners don’t realize that they are work dogs at heart.
The move to digital TV signals is getting publicized more and more as the deadline approaches. It should be interesting, I wonder how much the signal reception quality will improve?
Concurrently with the migration to digital TV airwaves, IPTV is coming along nicely too. As we’ve been blogging a lot about lately, you can watch TV on your PC for free, and thought its not quite the same as the couch potato clicker experience, its pretty darn good!
Match that with the progress Netflix and competitors have been making lately, and the future for TV looks bright!
YouTube on the other hand is facing some hurdles from Viacom. But who’s the real loser so far? We are, the viewers. Our privacy is getting invaded as Google’s been forced to “give up the goods” and provide user access logs to Viacom. As I understand it, there’s no personally identifiable information, but the precedent is discomforting. However, I’m glad I don’t face the $1 billion dollar lawsuit which Viacom is waging against Google at the moment!
